Mr. Konrad Kurt Hauptvogel, 80, of Sarasota and Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away Monday afternoon, January 12, 2009 after a courageous battle with Leukemia and Lymphoma at TideWell Hospice & Palliative Care House in Venice, Florida.
Born on April 13, 1928 in Lauchhammer, Germany, Konrad was one of 5 children born to the late Wally and Oswald Hauptvogel. Konrad was a Master Butcher, trained in Germany. He worked for Usingers Fine Sausage in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for many years before retiring in 1990. After retirement he moved to Sarasota, Florida where he played cards, enjoying the warm weather, especially walking Siesta Key Beach; gathering there under his German Flag with friends from many parts of the world.
Summers were spent at Carl Schurz Memorial Park in Stone Bank, Wisconsin where he was a member for many years. Sheepshead was the game of choice and Nickelaires were made and lost daily over the years. Konrad had a great zest for life, enjoying the simple things; good food, good drink, and good friends, usually in that order. Konrad’s positive attitude and robust outlook at life delighted his doctors as he successfully battled Leukemia for many years.
Konrad is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Angie and David Van Scyoc of Waukesha, WI; loving partner Gisela Stomp of Port Charlotte and her son and family in Australia; two brothers Helmut and Hans Hauptvogel and their families, of Germany; and his grand and great grandchildren, all residing in Southeastern Wisconsin. Konrad is further survived by family and friends in Wisconsin, Florida and Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
The Hauptvogel family would like to extend many thanks to the staff at Froedtert, especially Dr. Christopher Chitamber; and Dr. Eric Lubiner of Florida Cancer Specialists for their wonderful care over many years.
