Lally DeBoer Hedson Atkin, age 98, of North Port, FL, formerly of Port Charlotte, Florida died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, FL.
Lally was born on February 15, 1918 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A loving wife of nearly 60 years to Arthur A. Atkin, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Lally and her husband moved to Port Charlotte in 1976 from Willingboro, New Jersey. She moved to North Port after Hurricane Charlie with her daughter Rhoda, who lovingly cared for her the last 15 years of her life. Lally loved word jumble and scrabble, and loved to play cards, teaching Mahjong to her many friends. She had a wonderful wit and sense of humor, and a loving caring way. Lally was a character and everyone she met was her latest best friend.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Joan Fay Atkin, Kenneth E. Atkin, and Rhoda D. Miller; grandchildren, Samantha R. Atkin, Rebecca L. Gromet, and Joshua A. Atkin; and great grandchildren, Aaron, Zoe, Nathan and Sebastian. Lally was preceded in death by her beloved husband Arthur in January of 2003.
The Atkin family would like to extend to the Home Health Care workers who cared for Lally, their greatest gratitude for finding a special place in their hearts for our mother. A special thank you to all the Publix employees who found time in their day for Lally and made her feel always welcome and always special.
Committal services will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband Arthur.
