Lisa Bernice Schmidt left a message on August 5, 2012:
I am Larry Schmidt's daughter from his first marriage, to Margaret Cummings (October 14, 1945 - October 6, 2008). I was born in 1968 and my parents split up a few years later. I didn't see him again until I was in my mid twenties. Larry is also survived by two grandsons, Jamone (born 1992) and Isaiah (1993). We visited Larry and his family when Jamone and Isaiah were babies. Later, I visited again on my own. We had some good times, but I was unable to deal with having grown up without him and not being part of his life. I thought I could, and I said that I could, but my lifestyle and behavior absolutely screamed "daddy issues". For his part, he was disappointed in me, and made that very clear. He loved me and I loved him. I suffered from his absence, and he from mine, but we acted like jerks, pushed each other away and ultimately ended up completely estranged. Thinking that you have all the time in the world to make up your mind about forgiveness is a very big mistake. I remember walking with Larry on the beach at Boca Grande. I remember the time he spent with my sons, and I'll remember him every time I look in the mirror and see his face, his eyes, his expressions. Pam, Erika, and Brandon, I'm sorry for your loss. I don't think you're sorry for ours. I don't think you even consider what I and my sons experienced to be a loss. Just remember that at least you got to have a life with him. Some of us didn't even have that, and are mourning not only him, but what never was and never will be.

I am so sorry for the loss of Larry. I worked at CCU just accross from him, and always enjoyed his wry sense of humor. I was sad to see him go when he left the Utility, and know that many mourn his passing. He was a funny man and fun to see strolling in every morning. Joining in your loss, Alicia C. Accardi
