Leonard L. Meddaugh, 73, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 2023.
Leonard, fondly known as Roy to family and friends was born to the late Clifford J. and Caroline Meddaugh, in September of 1949, in the county of Tompkins, New York. Roy joined the U.S. Marine Corps. during the Vietnam War and achieved the rank of Lance Corporal before being discharged in 1968. After being discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps. he re-enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class before retiring from the military in 1989. After retiring he tried his hand at a few things such as a car salesman, a Sheriff’s Deputy, and eventually ended up working in the banking industry.
Roy enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, the New York Giants, and the New York Yankees. Later in life he grew fond of the Atlanta Braves and soon became a fan. He loved classic cars, spending time with family, and his dog Moe.
Roy is survived by his children and their spouses, daughters, Tara (Spouse – Reggie) Greene, and Kaye (Spouse – Carl) Grivner, and sons Jeff (Spouse – Jennifer) Meddaugh, and Martin V. (Spouse – Veronica) Meddaugh. Roy is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer, Brandon, Christian, Kacey, Tatum, Arianna, Lauren, and Karen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Myong Meddaugh.
A visitation and funeral service to follow will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023, at Roberson Funeral Home located at 215 Mary Street in Punta Gorda. Visitation will be from 11 to 12 Noon, with service starting at 12 Noon. Committal with Military Honors by the U.S. Army will be held at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, were he will laid to rest with his wife.
