LILA M. WILKINSON, 85, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Monday, October 1, 2007 at Charlotte Regional Medical Center, Punta Gorda, FL.

She was born May 1, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Port Charlotte in
1987 from Farmingdale, NJ. She was a former member of the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church of Freehold, NJ and attended the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church. Lila was a member of the Audubon Society in New Jersey and volunteered on many community projects to help migrants and children.

She is survived by her loving family, two daughters, Mary Elizabeth (David)
Cox of Port Charlotte and Patricia (Robert) Cabello of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two sons,
H.D. (Annette) Wilkinson of East Englewood, FL and Timothy H. Wilkinson of
Port Charlotte; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren

The death of a loved one is a curious thing. We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually our time will finish. Yet, it always comes as a surprise when it finally happens to someone close. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark and thinking there is one more stair than there really is. Your foot falls down, through the empty air, and there is that sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things. It's been a very long time since I last saw Howard's Mom, but I clearly remember her and the caring she gave us when we were all too young to realize so many things...and I continue to climb the stairs.
