Lisa Basta was born and raised in Pyrgos, Ilias, Greece, then moved to Mytilene, Lesvos, where she met and married Marinos Doukellis.
In 1965, Lisa came to the United States, settling in Springfield, MA, and worked two jobs in order to bring her family there five years later. She worked as a hairdresser and opened several of her own salons at different times. She was involved in platform work, teaching and demonstrating before many others in the trade. In the late 1980’s Lisa moved to Florida, working at hairdressing, then retiring finally. In 1999 she helped her sons Peter and Frank open an Englewood restaurant. She always enjoyed and excelled at cooking and baking which was her passion. When she wasn’t baking cookies for the church, she would be crocheting Afghans.
In her earlier years, back in Massachusetts, she was quite a proficient golfer, organizig several golf tornaments for the Thalasemia cause. Lisa enjoyed many summers in Greece on the island of Lesvos where she had many friends and relatives.
Lisa leaves her two daughter-in-laws, Pamela and Nancy Doukellis; Pamela’s partner Tim Archibald; grandsons Mark, Nikolas, and Kristos Doukellis; Mark’s wife Amanda, and their daughter Kayla; Kris’ wife Kathryn; stepson Jeffrey Platenik. She was preceded in death by husbands’ Earl Platenik, Marinos Doukellis, and Theodoros Bastas.
Lisa will be greatly missed by all her friends and family.
Visitation and viewing will be held from 1 to 2:00 Pm on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, with funeral service beginning 2:00 Pm at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Port Charlotte, Florida. Committal and burial will follow on Tuesday at Restlawn Memorial Gardens cemetery in Port Charlotte.
