home on Thursday September 1,2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Lucienne Poulard was born on October 28,1928 in Fond-des-Blancs, Haiti. She was
the daughter of Yzanlno Louis and Marcorel Poulard. She was the eldest of nine
siblings. Due to Lucienne being the eldest of her sibling she quickly became the
Matriarch of the family at a very early age in life.
In 1948 she moved to Port- au-Prince, Haiti in search of economic opportunities.
To financially support her family, she simultaneously worked as a merchant and
sowing baseballs in the local baseball factory. She met and married her late
husband Paul St.Surin in Haiti, were they raised their children. Paul St.Surin moved
to the United States in the early 1970s. He later sent for all his children and then
migrated his wife, Lucienne to the United States in 1982.
While living in Massachusetts she was a member of the Evangelical Haitian Church
of Somerville led by Pastor Fevrier. She was a devoted Christian and praying
warrior. She would constantly devote her time, to church, praying, and worshiping
the Lord. She loved to cook large portions of food to feed her family and anyone
that stopped by her house on a given day. She had a great sense of humor and
enjoyed sharing stories of her life with all her children, nieces/nephews, and
grandchildren.
She moved to Port Charlotte, Florida in 1992 to be closer to her daughters and
help raise her grandchildren. Upon moving to Florida, she and her late husband
became faithful members of Ebenezer Haitian Baptist Church.
The two most important things she loves the most was her family and the Lord.
What was undeniable was Lucienne Poulard passion of service to her family and
community. She was a tireless servant of God. Throughout her entire life she was
a constant support to us all.
Lucienne was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, aunt, and friend to so many.
The loss of her life will have a great impact to the legacy she leaves behind.
She is survived by her two sisters in Canada Theolia Poulard and Mecilia Louis.
Lucienne Poulard legacy includes her daughters: Mathilde Nelson and son-in-law
Pastor Guy Nelson, Mimose Desruisseaux and son-in-law Marra Desruisseaux,
Marie-Jocelyn Jean- Louis and son-in-law Pastor Jean Jean Louis, Magguy St.Surin,
Yva Paul and son in law- Jean Blefleur , and daughter- in law- Olga Rosemond. Her
step-sons: Andre St.Surin, Lucien St.Surin, Jean St.Surin, and Arland St.Surin.
Lucienne is preceded in death by Marie- Yolande Joesph and Herman Rosemond.
She also leaves behind her departed sister’s loving children who she raised as her
own: Linda Peltrop, Betty Peltrop, and Ronald Duval.
Of her many nieces and nephew, she leaves behind: Nancy Louis, Betty Louis,
Reynol Louis, Elysandar Elyse’, Lourvens Elyse’, Lesley Poulard, Jean-Claude
Poulard, Huguette Poulard, Magna Poulard, Nadia Poulard, Sony Poulard, Marie
Lourde Poulard, Nicole Duchatelier, Herold Louis, Yves Ruben, Yvena Brice, Yvette
Louis, Nerline Thalon, Gerada Thalon and Carole Jean.
What brought her the greatest joy was spending time and helping raise her 27
grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. The oldest ranging from 50 years of age
to the youngest recent born of 7 months of age. All her grandchildren would agree
that Grun Lucienne was truly their biggest supporters. She had a way of making us
all feel very special in our own way.
In the past few weeks leading up to her death she was surrounded by her children
and her grandchildren. They all helped to take care of her in her final days. She
passed in the same manner she spent her entire life, serving her family and
praising the Lord.
Today we honor Lucienne, we celebrate her life, and we thank God for her
commitment to the family. We thank her for being a role model to the generations
she is leaving behind her. She truly was the Queen in our family and will be sorely
missed. The legacy of her life will remain in our hearts forever. May she rest in
eternal peace.
