Marjorie Ann Curry, 97, died on July 2, 2026, while living at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in Port Charlotte, FL.
Marjorie was born on November 26th, 1928, in Portland, Maine. She was 97 years old and was the oldest of 7 children born of James and Florence Maloney of 54 Read St., Portland, Maine. She was predeceased by siblings: Marilyn Carswell, James R Maloney, Jacqueline Erickson, Kathleen Gargiulo, Donald Maloney, and John F Maloney.
Marjorie attended St Joseph’s parish schools and graduated from St Joseph’s Academy in 1946 in Portland Maine. She married George K Curry, also from Portland Maine on November 28th, 1946. George passed away in February 1995. She worked as a secretary, bookkeeper, junior accountant, and changed careers becoming a Licensed Practicing Nurse in 1971. Marjorie worked at Goodall Hospital, Sanford Maine upon her graduation from Maine Medical Hospital Nursing School. She was a volunteer in the Department of Maine Auxiliary where she was a past member of the Ralph D Caldwell Post 29 Auxiliary in Portland, and the T.W. Cole Post 17 Auxiliary in Sanford, ME. She was a past President of Cumberland County and York County District Auxiliaries. She was a staff volunteer for the American Legion Department of Maine Girls State Conferences for over 40 years. Marjorie was a founding member of the Lake Estes Association in Alfred, Me. She and George enjoyed square dancing and attended some national dancing events in their later years.
In 1994, she retired and established residence in Port Charlotte. Florida. She volunteered as an usher at the Port Charlotte Community Cultural Center, as well as the Port Charlotte Players theatre locations. She took pride in her role as head usher. She was instrumental in organizing and coordinating the “Maine” breakfast, held monthly in the Port Charlotte area for many years. She loved to organize “potluck” suppers in the condominium complex she lived in. Even in her eighties, she volunteered to take blood pressure for those that needed monitoring. She was a communicant of St Charles Borromeo parish for over 26 years.
She is survived by 3 sons, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren: David and Christine Curry of New Durham, NH with son’s Nathaniel and Patrick; Stephen and Marie Curry of Concord, NH with son’s Ryan and John; Kenneth Curry of Elkton, Fl with daughters Teresa and Kristin.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 A.m. at St Charles Borromeo Church in Port Charlotte, Florida. Marjorie will be interred later at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland, Maine.
