Margaret Elizabeth Gill-Butler, 95, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
Margaret was born on July 30, 1928, in Memphis, TN. She was the daughter of Louis Maynard Gill Sr. and Martha Lorena Gill. Many may remember their peach orchard on Gill Road, close to the intersection of Neely and Mitchell Roads, now owned and developed by prominent trucking company. She attended Levi Elementary School, and graduated from Whitehaven Highschool, Class of 1946. As an adult, Margaret became an executive for a major jewelry company in Memphis and oversaw the accounting department for a chain of 19 jewelry stores spread throughout the Southeastern and Midwestern United States. Upon retiring, she moved to Port Charlotte in the 1980’s to enjoy all the fun and sun that Florida has to offer.
Most of all, Margaret was a loving mother to her three sons, Dr. Joe Butler Jr., Larry Butler, and Jeff Butler. She is survived by these three sons as well as their wives, Joy Butler, Lucy Butler, and Pamela Ehlert-Butler. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Craig Butler and Jennifer Spaulding, a great granddaughter, Kadie Butler Safranek, and two great-great granddaughters, Aubree and Rylee Safranek. In addition, there are countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends not listed here whom she loved very dearly and spoke of them often.
She will be buried at Forrest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee. A memorial service will be held in Memphis which will be announced later. Friend may visit online at www.robersonfh.com to extend condolences to the family. Arrangements by Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel.
