MaryAnn Evans, 83 of North Port, Florida passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2023. She was a loving wife to our dad, a sweet and devoted mom of her boys, and a dedicated grandma to her grandchildren.
Our mom was born on January 7, 1940, in Pennsylvania, and was a 1957 graduate of Charleroi (PA) high school. She married our dad, the love of her life, in 1959, and they eventually relocated to Indiana to raise their four sons. Tenacious and a hard worker, Mom worked full time while attending college part time, graduating from Purdue University – Calumet in 1984 with a B.S. in Social Work. She went on to dedicate her professional life to the service of others, working as a social worker in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Seasonal residents of Florida after their retirement, she and our dad finally moved down full-time in 2002. They soon built a house and settled in North Port, FL. and became members of St. Maxamillian Kolbe Catholic Church in Port Charlotte, where Mom was a member of the Emmaus Retreat team. A devout Catholic, our mom spent her life in dedicated service to God and her family.
Our mom was strong, smart, caring and kind. She was fiercely dedicated and loved deeply. She guided us through so many challenges and celebrated with us at every single triumph. She epitomized self-sacrifice. She always gave us her best and brought out our best. Our lives are fuller for having had her as a part of them, and they will be emptier now that she is gone. We will miss her forever.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mildred Meluch. She leaves behind her adoring husband, George; her children, George (Nancy), Christopher (Tammy), Michael, and Steven; her sisters, Mildred Leinberger, Kathy Agamedi, and Johnnie Rice; and her four grandchildren.
Viewing will take place at Roberson Funeral Home in Port Charlotte on Wednesday, September 20, from 2-4pm. The funeral will be held at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church on Thursday, September 21 at 11:00am. Inurnment will be held at St. Maximilian Kolbe Memorial Gardens.
