Mary L. Smith, 88, of North Port, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at the Venice Hospice House in Venice, Florida.

She was born on a Monday, September 17, 1934, in New York City, New York, to the late Joseph and Matilda Pereira.  She eventually met her beloved husband Charles Edwin “Ed” Smith, and together settled in North Port, Florida.  Mary, who had retired, was formerly a Bookstore Manager and Business Office Cashier at Manatee Community College.

She is survived by her beloved husband Ed Smith, children, daughters Linda Vanderherchen of Englewood, FL, and Gloria Schuler of Wagoner, OK, sons Joe Dixon of North Port, FL, and Tim Riordan of Bohemia, NY; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Michael Pereira of New Port Richey, FL, many extended family members.

A committal service and burial to follow will be held 2:30 pm Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida.
