Matthew Joseph Syrek, 78, of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Barrington, Illinois, and New Jersey, peacefully passed away in his home on July 28, 2024.
Following his retirement from his lifetime career in the insurance industry, Matthew spent his well-earned free time fishing and playing golf. He also dedicated his time to the Big Brothers organization of Charlotte County and enjoyed spending time with his “little brother.” Matthew developed a love of cooking in his retirement and loved spoiling his family and friends with delicious cuisine. His steak and baked potato dinners were a fan favorite and will be missed most by his grandchildren.
Matthew’s loving spirit is carried on by his wife of fifty-six years, Lucille “Dolly” Syrek and his children, Michele (Kevin Flynn) and Matthew “Jamie” (April) Syrek. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Marilyn Werner. Matthew was a cherished “Pop Pop” to Ethan, Aiden, and Marin Flynn, and Madeline and Miles Syrek. Matthew never missed the opportunity to show his support for his grandchildren in all of their endeavors and took such pride in their individual accomplishments.
Matthew will be remembered most for his kind and generous spirit. To know Matthew was to love him, and to say he will be missed by his loved ones is an understatement. A celebration of life memorial will be held at a later date.
