He was born November 30, 1936 in Lawrence, Massachusetts and moved to Port Charlotte in 1987 from Newport News, Virginia. Michael was the former Chief Operating Officer at Bon Secours Hospital, Methuen, MA, the former President of Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington, Maine and Mary Immaculate Hospital, Newport News, VA. He was the former hospital administrator and Chief Executive Officer of Bon Secours St. Joseph Hospital, Port Charlotte, retiring in 1993 and was active in many community organizations in Charlotte County.
He served as member of the Joint Commission on Healthcare Accreditation retiring in 2000. Michael was an active member of San Antonio Catholic Church, Port Charlotte, member of Knights of Columbus Council #12456, Emmaus and Couples for Christ. He was a peacetime veteran of the United States Navy.
He is survived by his loving family, wife of 31 years, Eleanor R. Cronin of Port Charlotte; daughter, Rebecca (Christopher) Woodford of Minot, ME; a daughter, Laurita (Thomas) Marshall of Switzerland; sons, Michael B. (Darlene) Cronin of Jamestown, RI and James (Theresa) Cronin of Scarborough, ME; sister, Priscilla Quintal of N. Andover, MA; brother, John Cronin of N. Andover, MA; daughter-in-law, Lisa Lennon of Methuen, MA; first wife, Barbara Cronin of Temple, ME; and 7 grandchildren. Michael was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Lennon, a brother, David Cronin and sisters, Ann Theresa Cronin and Sheila Campbell.
Visitation will be held Wednesday 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday 11:00 AM, June 26, 2014 at San Antonio Catholic Church, Port Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, c/o San Antonio Catholic Church, or to Tidewell Hospice, Inc., both of Port Charlotte, Florida.
