Michael J. Schimp, age 76, a resident of Punta Gorda, Florida since 1992, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020, due to an extended illness.
Mike was born on Wednesday, February 2, 1944 in Clarion, Pennsylvania, to Fred B. and Bernice Schimp. A retired Supervisor for Eastman Kodak, Mike a former resident of Holley, New York, enjoyed spending time outdoors in the sunshine, gardening, family gatherings, visiting with friends and pampering his many loved pets.
He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Bernice, a brother Fred N. Schimp, and nephews Nicholas DiNunzio and David Schimp. Mike is survived by his long time friend and companion, Jim Sweezy; sisters, Mary (Spouse Nick) DiNunzio, Judy Schimp, Margaret (Spouse Mike) Reding, and Vicki (Spouse Doug) Susol. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

For some reason I was thinking of you and Jim today. I guess I was directed here by fate. Mike and Jim were good friends of my parents, Bill and Audine Miller at the campground in Punta Gorda. They loved Both Mike and Jim very much. They are both deceased now, too. Jim, you have my since condolences in the passing of the love of your life. I’m thinking of both of you today with fond memories.

Jimmy we are so sorry for your loss Mike and I had a lot of laughs bantering back and forth. Also had fun at the campfires. I will remember him fondly Joanne and Rick

I'm very sorry to hear of Mike's passing. It has been a very long time since I have seen Mike or the rest of the family but I think you all very fondly. The entire family was a very important part of my teen years and I have never forgotten any of you. I will remember Mike's always smiling face. I never met Jim but my thoughts and prayer are with you all.

With heartfelt sadness I wish my best to the entire Schimp family as well as Jim. As both newbies families to Holley my sisters and I enjoyed the friendship of Judy and Mike. I recall many a night front porch visits with music (WBBF or WKBW) and conversation. Most of all I remember Mike as a fun loving person with a great sense of humor. Many a time he would take Jane or I in his car for a ride which always turned into an adventure. We are lucky that Mike came into our lives, which we will remember many great fond memories.

Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

It’s been a long time since I saw you sweet cousin. I remember you and a friend driving me and Sandy from Aunt Helen’s to your Mom's one summer in that convertible that was a Shelby and I called it a Mustang which offended everyone. Godspeed sweet man. ❤️

I am deeply saddened by Mikes passing. I loved him like a brother. I respected how he protected his little sister who would become my wife. (Vickie) In fact he walked her down the aisle at our wedding because their dad died young. Mike always had that smile on his face and you always wondered what he was going to say next. My heart pains for Jim, his family and all that loved him. May we all find comfort in the memories he left us and hope that time will soften this painful loss.

Jimmy, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. I will keep you in my prayers. Mike, what can I say, you will always be a bright and awesome memory in my life - I am glad that I painted the poinsettias on the window you wanted, I left them up all year for you, it made you smile, we shared a lot of laughs, I thank you for that and for your friendship.
