Continue ReadingMichael John Tardy, 80, of Punta Gorda, Florida, went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 6, 2025, with his wife by his side at the Tidewell Hospice House Port Charlotte.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Tardy, two daughters, Kathryne Anderson and Elizabeth Barnhill; two stepdaughters, Gillian Baker and Erin Pomerleau; two sons, Mike Jr. and Paul Tardy, a stepson, Kent Couling; a brother, David Tardy and eleven precious grandchildren, who brought him abundant joy! He was predeceased by his loving older brother, Carroll Tardy.
Mike was born February 21, 1945, in Presque Isle, Maine to the late Louis and Arleene Tardy. Growing up in Virginia, he enjoyed all sports, played football for the Colonial Heights High School (VA) winning team, and became a lifelong fan of the Redskins and of UVA football. He was a retired Resident Engineer for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and a proud U.S. Navy veteran, serving in Navigation on the USS Kitty Hawk during Vietnam.
Avid sailors on the waters of Chesapeake Bay, Mike and Kathy retired to Punta Gorda so he could “park his sailboat at his back door” in 2002. He sailed the boat down to Punta Gorda to begin the wonderful retirement years. An active member of Burnt Store Presbyterian Church in Punta Gorda, Mike was honored to be elected an Elder, and he enjoyed being part of mission teams to Haiti and domestically with the church.
Memorial services will be held at Burnt Store Presbyterian Church on March 29th, 2025 at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Burnt Store Presbyterian Church or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
