Nancy was born in Vinton, Virginia November 7th, 1929, where she lived with her family before relocating to Punta Gorda 37 years ago. Her deceased husband, Howard Wayne Porterfield, lovingly resided with her until his death in 2001. As a member of Cleveland United Methodist Church for many years before the onset of her illness, Nancy looked forward to attending services each Sunday and catching up with her local friends and friends from northern locations. She religiously looked forward to receiving the church bulletin after her home confinement and cared deeply about her church friends.
Nancy was known for her generosity, kindness, wit and always placing the benefit of others before her own. She was devoted to her children and without fail praised their character and accomplishments to friends and strangers alike. Everyone knew much about her children and especially how much she loved them. Nancy always spoke her mind from the heart with honesty and integrity. She loved to laugh and amazed all with her spontaneous sense of humor. She was gifted at discovering creative solutions to countless circumstances and challenges. Nancy possessed an uncanny ability to nurture all living things. Strangers and friends alike would stop her in the yard, ask about her wonderful flowers and express envy of her “green thumb”. Upon meeting her, there was no animal who failed to immediately fall in love. She was especially attached to her two feline companions, Pumpkin and Buddy, whom she adopted from the Port Charlotte Animal Welfare League and who were constantly by her side during their time on earth.
Nancy wanted to express her sincere love and appreciation to her dear friends, Maxine Parker and Dorothy Jones, who stood by her through good and bad times over many years.
She is survived by her son, Mark Porterfield of Port Charlotte, and her daughter Linda Porterfield of Punta Gorda.
