Naomi Claretta Lamont, 96, of Port Charlotte, Florida died at her home on Thursday August 5th surrounded by family and friends. Born on January 1st, 1925 in Mount Charles, Saint Andrew in Jamaica, WI. She lived in Manchester, England for 18 years, before moving with her family to Brooklyn, New York in 1972. She retired to Port Charlotte, Florida in 1986 with her late beloved husband Edward, where they became members of the St. James Episcopal Church.
During the course of her full and memorable life, Naomi was a hairdresser, clothing retailer, nurse’s assistant, and will also be remembered for her elaborate wedding cake creations.
Naomi, was the last remaining sibling of her eight brothers and sisters and is survived by her five children and four grandchildren; Son, Owen of Manchester, England. Daughters, Diana and Jacqueline of Brooklyn, New York, Ita of North Brunswick, New Jersey and Sharron of Port Charlotte, Florida and her grandchildren, Marlon, Josephine, Christopher and Graham. She will be missed greatly by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held Friday 11:00 AM, August 20, 2021 at Roberson Funeral Home Chapel, 2151 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL 33948. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the funeral services from 10 AM until 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte, Florida.
Memorial contributions may be made to: The American Cancer Society.

I have had the privilege of getting to know Naomi‘s daughter, Diana, in the workplace many years ago. First as a colleague, and soon after, as a friend. Our relationship has grown and deepened over the years, and I have been blessed to have such a dear, dear friend in my life.
Diana would so often speak of Naomi, who she always referred to as “Mother.” Not “my mother.” It was simply, “Mother.”
It may be due, in part at least, to geographical or cultural differences? I’m not sure. But I never thought to bring it up … until now. I am articulating, for the first time, how much it has stuck with me over the years! When speaking of my own dear departed mother who passed before I met Diana, I would say, just as I wrote: “my mother.” It finally hit me: beyond whatever geographical or cultural differences that may be at play — I was born and raised in Queens, NY — when speaking with Diana, it has always felt symbolic of a unbreakable bond. Mother, Daughter. Not my mother, my daughter. Just Mother.
I have also not had the privilege to meet my dear friend’s siblings or other family members, but I have come to feel acquainted with you through Diana, who keeps me informed about your comings and goings, your shared expeditions and experiences. I hope to meet you one day soon, but for now I send my deepest condolences, my love, and my prayers … for “Mother.” For “Daughter.” And for all those who knew and loved her.
