Continue ReadingPearl Eunice Martin of Port Charlotte, Florida died Monday, September 11, 2023 peacefully at home. She was born on March 16, 1928, in the Parish of St. Mary, Jamaica. She was the beloved daughter of Claudius Clark and Maria Walters. From the moment she entered this world until her passing, Auntie Pearl’s life was a testament to love and kindness.
“Auntie Pearl”, lived a long life, reaching the age of 95, as Scripture tells us in Psalms 90:10: “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; And if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” Her name, Pearl, itself carries a profound meaning, as pearls are known for their purity, beauty, and value, much like Auntie Pearl herself. Just as pearls are treasured for their rarity, so was Auntie Pearl’s presence in our lives.
In her childhood, she shared her upbringing with siblings Kenneth Walters and the late Evadne Reid. Her circle of friends spanned across the USA, UK, Canada, and her native Jamaica.
Auntie Pearl found love in Kingston, Jamaica, where she married the late Enos Martin. She pursued her education in General Studies in Jamaica and later embarked on a career that led her to various jobs in the UK, Canada, and the USA, including serving in the healthcare industry in Canada and the Air Force Services in the UK. She retired and relocated to Florida.
Her journey led her to call Jamaica, England, Canada, and the USA her homes, and she enjoyed hobbies like cooking, entertaining friends, and traveling. Her passion for helping others was immeasurable, as she and her husband opened their doors and hearts to assist countless families and friends in need.
Auntie Pearl often shared her near-death experience after open-heart surgery, where she spoke about vivid colors of green, the beauty of flowers, and a place of indescribable serenity. She spoke of a bird, that carefully guided her back into her body, and upon awakening, she was surrounded by doctors and people singing a church selection. This was a testament to life after death, as 2 Corinthians 5:8 reminds us, “we are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”
Auntie Pearl’s life, filled with warmth, love, and generosity, has left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. As 1 Corinthians 15:55-58 reminds us, “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” Auntie Pearl found victory on that faithful day recorded in heaven, September 11, 2023, when she went home to be with the Lord. Victory through the blood of Jesus Christ, her faith in our Lord and Savior. She will be greatly missed until we meet again in Glory. May she rest in eternal peace, for to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Auntie Pearl is survived by her brother, Kenneth Walters, and a host of nieces, including Lisa Walters, Beverly Scarlet, Dawn Clunie, Gosette Robinson, Deborah Walford Davis, Erica Heron, grandnieces/nephews and a host of others represented here today.
She was predeceased by her beloved spouse, Enos Martin, in December 2021.
