Peter A. Dulk, Jr., 78, of Rotonda West, FL. sailed his final voyage on April 28, 2009 following a brief illness and residence at Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, FL.
Peter was born June 23, 1930 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Peter A. (Sr.) and Ines (nee Cardona y Silvestrini) Dulk. He attended Elementary, Junior High and Senior High Schools in Elizabeth, NJ. He studied journalism at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ for one semester before being accepted at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. He graduated in March, 1953 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Upon graduation, he went to work for Electric Boat in Groton, CT where he worked on the construction of the first atomic submarine, The Nautilus. After two years with Electric Boat and as a commitment to the USMMA, Peter decided to complete his naval services. For the first to years he sailed aboard the USS Seminole out of San Diego, CA and then transferred to Key West, FL where he spent another two years aboard the USS Robinson. Following his four years of active duty, Peter remained in the naval reserves for the next twenty years. Peter retired from the naval reserve in June, 1979 having attained the rank of commander. After his four years of active duty, Peter pursued a career as a teacher. He received his teaching certificate and his Masters Degree in Education from Rutgers University. For twenty six years, he taught junior high school science in Clark, NJ. Upon retiring in 1985, he and his wife retired to Port Charlotte, FL where they lived for the next nineteen years. Here Peter pursued his passion of sailing throughout Charlotte Harbor. He and his wife traveled extensively here and abroad. Peter loved baseball and in 1987 his dreams came alive when the Texas Rangers came to town. For the next sixteen years he worked in the Press Box during Spring Training rubbing elbows with the many “old-timers” while during the minor league season he was the official score keeper for the team. Following Hurricane Charley’s winds and water in 2004, the couple relocated to Rotonda West, FL.
