PETER TAKI JANOS,85, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away on August 27, 2023.
Peter was born in Miami, Florida on June 1, 1938, to parents George and Mary Janos. He attended school in Miami, Florida. From his early teens he had an interest in cars. He delivered newspapers before school and worked at an auto parts store after school and weekends which enabled him to save money to invest in his cars. He enlisted in the US Navy (Naval Air) at the age of 17.
Pete was the owner and manager of Pizza Pete’s restaurant in Arcadia, Florida. He worked as a general manager for Cracker Barrel and Golden Corral. He was the Food Director at multiple prisons in Texas and Florida, Dietary Director at Atlantic Shores Hospital, Forest Ranger and managed two restaurants and resorts for 8 seasons on Mackinaw Island. Other positions included: owned and operated a 24 Shell station, Homeland Security, Security Services (SGT in charge) for a hospital, and Life and Health Insurance agent.
His hobbies included motorcycles, cars, and cooking (BBQs) (He had the nickname of “Holy Smoker”). He owned many sharp and classic cars in his life. The last being a 1977 Corvette, which he called his “BABY RED”. He was a member of HARBOR CORVETTES and won many trophies and plagues.
Most of all Pete loved the Lord and his church and served in whatever capacity needed. He went on four mission trips to Ukraine. He was active in the Southern Baptist Rapid Disaster Response Team. He lived his life to the fullest in every measure. He loved to make people laugh and whoever met him left with a smile.
Pete’s daughters and granddaughters were the highlight of his life. He participated actively in their lives. He enjoyed attending all of their school activities. He loved them so much and was very proud of them all.
Pete was preceded in death by his father and mother, George, and Mary Janos. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his sister, Elaine (Karl) Ernst, children Tressa (Jon) Staff, Petrina (Justin) Carlton, Jon (Bobbi) Henry, Stepchildren, Scott (Brenda) Thurow, and Debi (Brian) Craft. He is survived by his three granddaughters, Avery Carlton, Kasyn Carlton, and Delaney Carlton. Three step grandchildren, Amy (Brian)Chippendale, Brandon (Rayla) Craft and Jackie Thurow and his beloved nieces Mary Ellen (Bob) Arroyo, Kathy (Robert) Mendez, Tina Hodges, Barbara Milledge and nephew, Skip (Elmy) Ernst and many grand nieces and nephews.
A service will be held Friday September 8, 2023, at Murdock Baptist Church, 18375 Cochran Blvd, Port Charlotte, FL 33948 at 11:00 am and visitation starting at 10:00 am.
