Ralph F. Moody, 80, of Naples, Florida died February 16, 2024, at Sun Harbor Health, Port Charlotte, Florida
Ralph was born July 9, 1943, in Washington DC where he attended Woodward Prep. The son of a Washington, D.C. police officer he saw the world of government in a way few others have. He was a page in the U.S. House of Representatives, and for the U.S. Senate. He was first team all-city in Washington D.C., both in basketball and baseball, and attended Memphis State University. He left Memphis State to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served on the USS Ticonderoga and was honorably discharged. He then went to work for Southern Bell as a lineman and worked for them until hired by Oracle to run fiber optic cable through the Rocky Mountains. He retired to the Naples, Florida area to be near his two sons.
He was lovingly referred to as the “Captain” and could be heard laughing and telling stories of his past to anyone who would listen. He loved sports and he often would ask questions about his beloved Washington Redskins who are now known as the Washington Commanders. His greatest memories as a child were standing on the sidelines with his dad at RFK stadium and cheering them on.
Ralph is survived by his sister, Betty Horne of San Angelo, Texas: two sons Timothy and Garland Moody, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Memorial services be held later with full military honors. Friends may visit online at www.robersonfh to extend condolences to the family. Arrangements by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory Port Charlotte Chapel.
