He was born December 12, 1925 in Boston, Massachusetts and moved to Harbor Heights in 1984 from Wilmington, MA. Richard grew up in Dedham, MA and lived in Wilmington, MA and retired to Florida. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Navy as a signalman. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a former scout master Troop 56 both in MA. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather and uncle who will be missed but not forgotten.
Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Bernice Gustafson of Port Charlotte; two daughters, Gail (William) Steele of Beavercreek, OH and April (Gary) Cook of Methuen, MA; a son, Richard (Janet) Gustafson of North Reading, MA; two sisters, Regina Putnam of Dedham, MA and Rosalie Carlson of Readville, MA; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Jamie, Janet, Julie, Julieanne, Michael, Matthew; great grandchildren, Ben and Jillian; a daughter in law Cheryl and many nieces and nephews;
There will be a memorial service 2:00 PM May 5, 2010 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel

Our deepest sympathy and prayers are with all his family. It was sad news to hear. Uncle Richie will greatly be missed. We had a lot of great times at the house in Wilmington and always looked forward to going there, hanging out in the basement, signing under the stairs, playing pool, and the turtles in the pool! I can still see him making his Viking sign on his forehead. Great times that I will always remember. God Bless him. We will see him later and the good times will continue.

It's hard to believe that it's been so long since he and Aunt Bernice moved south. I still have many vivid memories of all the wonderful visits we made to Wilmington.
