Richard “Rick” M. Mayo, 94, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, in neighboring Port Charlotte, Florida.
Rick was born on October 7th, 1931, in the Philippines to Jose and Dolores (née-Manglicmot) Mayo. Following a successful career in Civil Engineering, he relocated to the United States in 1979. After settling in Southwest Florida’s Charlotte County, he decided to serve his new community and soon took up a position within the Charlotte County Corrections Department, until his eventual retirement which allowed him to spend more time with his family and further pursue his love of gardening.
He is survived by his wife Lorenza, his sisters Adoracion Burleson, Minda Sogocio, and Ely Alcid, a daughter, Reza Abaya and her husband Jonas, and his two sons, Rex Mayo and his wife Maribel, and Roy May and his wife Emily: two grandchildren, Elana and Xander, and many loving nieces, nephews and extended relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Dolores.
A funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda, Florida on Friday, January 16th, 2026, at 11:30 Am. The family will hold another service for Rick followed by burial in his native Philippines.
