Richard “Dick” Ned Kaufman, Sr., 80, of North Port, Florida died Friday, June 6, 2025, at Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans’ Nursing Home, Port Charlotte, Florida.
Dick was born April 26, 1945, in Logansport, Indiana. He moved to Florida in 1981 from Logansport. He was a retired police officer of North Port PD and former owner of D & L Removal and Transport Co. of North Port. Dick was a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran. He was a member of Orient Lodge No. 272 F&AM of Royal Center, IN, Disabled American Veterans Post #82, Port Charlotte Fl, American Legion Post #60 Logansport IN, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8203 of North Port. He was a member of New Day Christian Church, North Port, Florida Campus.
Dick loved his family and wife; he was an active family man that coached his children through all the sports endeavors and enjoyed helping people. Dick was such a people person that Dick and Connie would dress up as Santa and Mrs. Claus at Christmas time and sit the driveway to hand out candy canes, take photos with complete strangers and give tours to a completely decorated home and millions of lights.
Survived by his loving family, wife, Connie L. Kaufman of North Port; four sons, Richard N. Kaufman, Jr. of North Port. Randy Rhodes of Winston-Salem, NC, Rodney Rhodes of Greenbrier, TN, and Richard Rhodes of Logansport, IN. Two daughters, Rachel Galvin of Englewood, FL and Cecilia K. Bray of Venice, FL; 15 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grand Children, with 3 more due within the next 100 days.
Graveside service and interment with military honors will be held Friday 1:30 PM, June 27, 2025, at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida. Memorial services celebrating Dick’s life will follow at 4:00 PM June 27, 2025, at New Day Christian Church Nort Port Campus, 7000 Sumter Crossing Dr., North Port, FL 34287.
