ROBERT BOB R. ANDERSON, Sr., 76, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Consulate Health Care of Port Charlotte.
He was born December 1, 1933 in Buffalo, New York to William C. Anderson and Trezska Rix Anderson. At an early age he lost his father, but had a wonderful step-father, John E. Blake. Robert moved to Port Charlotte in 1972 from Buffalo. He was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He was a devoted member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church of Port Charlotte where he served as a hospitality minister. Member of Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree Council , Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie#3296, former Little League and Pop Warner Football Coach, all of Port Charlotte; Member of the American Legion, Fishing Club of America, and a life member of the National Rifle Association. He was also a 1st Degree Black Belt in Karate, GoJu style.
Robert was a veteran of the Korean War, served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a Sergeant where he televised and photographed nuclear tests. After his military service he worked in television broadcasting, glass and aluminum installation and retired as a
licensed waste water operator for the Charlotte County Utilities Water Treatment Plant.
Survived by his loving family, wife of 51 years, Catherine (Kit) A. Closs Anderson of Port Charlotte; four sons, Robert R. (Dianne) Anderson, Jr. of Dale City, VA, William C. (Kim) Anderson of Memphis, TN, Joseph H. (Brenda) Anderson of Bonaire, GA, and David J. (Lydia) Anderson of Port Charlotte; a daughter, Catherine M.(John) Anderson of Tampa, FL; a sister, Catherine Beattie of Vero Beach, FL; former exchange student and friend, Michael Koch of Germany; 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
