Robert E. Engel, 89, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Harbor Health Center in Port Charlotte.
Bob was born March 25, 1926 in White Plains, New York and moved to Port Charlotte in 2008 from Long Beach Island, N.J. Robert was a WWII veteran who served in the U.S. Coast Guard-Merchant Marines. He was the former owner of Bob’s Restaurant in Ship Bottom, NJ. Bob was an accomplished Saxophone player with his band known as the “Nu Notes”. He was a life time member of the Deep Creek Elks lodge, a member of Beach Haven Moose Lodge, American Legion and Master Mason in the Masonic Lodge in Burlington, NJ. Bob was an avid boatman and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a loved and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend and will forever be missed by all who loved and knew him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Barbara; his 2 sons, Robert (June Ann) Engel of Manahawkin, NJ and Gary (Lynn) Engel of Williamsburg, VA; 3 daughters, Debra (Bill) Sharp of Lewes, DE, Darlene Sillitoe and Jane (Jed) Brown both of Manahawkin, NJ; 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and his beloved cat, Clancy.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date by the family in N.J.
