Robert G. “Bob” Pender, 75, of Port Charlotte, passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2015 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
Bob was born on Feb. 11, 1940 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to the late George H. and Marie C. (nee – Samarco) Pender. Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy, and retired in 1995 as Superintendent of Parks and Recreation for the City of Punta Gorda. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and donated his time to St. Vincent de Paul and helping local homeless and disabled Veterans. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8074 and the American Legion Post 103 of Punta Gorda.
Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Paula Ann (nee – Ruvolo) Pender; his daughters, Ann Marie (Allen) Perez and their children, Marina Noelle and Jared Emil Perez; and Barbara (Thomas) Sloan and their children, Michael Thomas and Jonathon Taylor Sloan.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Bob’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda, FL. A private Committal with Military Honors will follow at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, or any other charitable organization helping homeless veterans with special needs to transition from homelessness to a positive future of independence.
