Robert Michael Mahoney, , age 71, of Lake Suzy, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at his residence.

Robert was born on a Friday, March 28, 1952, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to the late Edward and Mary Mahoney.  Following high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1972 to 1976.  Upon returning to civilian life he met and married the love of his life, Susan, with whom he raised two children, a son, Robert Jr., and a daughter, Ashley.  During this time he began a career in public service as a city Firefighter and following an injury in the line of duty he sought employment as a town Bus Driver to ensure he could stay close to his children.  Following his retirement, he and Susan eventually relocated from Massachusetts to Southwest Florida, where they enjoyed the temperate weather and sunny skies together.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years Susan D. Mahoney, his son Robert M. Mahoney, Jr. and his spouse Katelyn, his daughter Ashley D. Mahoney, two grandchildren Hannah and Olivia Mahoney, and his three brothers Edward, D. Leo, and Kevin Mahoney.

A Memorial service celebrating Robert’s life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Roberson Funeral Home located at 215 Mary Street in Punta Gorda.  Deacon Thomas S. Caliguire will officiate.  A private committal will be held in Massachusetts at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in Robert’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.
