Robert was born in Hampstead, Maryland on January 31, 1935 to the late Dorothy G. (nee-Hann) and William H. Shaffer, Sr. He and his wife Joan moved to Port Charlotte from his native Hampstead in 1972 and Robert enjoyed working as a Golf course Superintendant for various Southwest Florida Golf courses until his retirement. He also enjoyed many outdoor activities with his wife and family, was a member of the Golf Course Superintendants Association, and Riverwood Golf Club in Port Charlotte, and attended Gulf Cove United Methodist Church also in Port Charlotte.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan L. Shaffer; a daughter, Sandy and husband Douglas Weaver, all of Port Charlotte; a son, Stanley S. Shaffer; one grandson, Robert Weaver; one great-grandson, Robert Weaver, Jr.; a brother, Earl F. Shaffer; two nieces and three nephews. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
A Memorial service will be celebrated for Robert 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Gulf Cove United Methodist Church.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers are suggested to Gulf Cove United Methodist Church of Port Charlotte in Robert’s name.
Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Homes & Crematory Port Charlotte Chapel.

LouAnn and Were classmates with Bob for 12 great years. We played on two county soccer championship teams and a Mdstate fast pitch championship team. We played basketball for 4 years dueling high school. Bob had a great sense of humor. We were in Boy Scouts and Sunday School. We had many "Huck Finn" adventures together. Joan came along and he had a smile on his face thereafter.
