Russell Alfred Wills, 94, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025, at Tidewell Hospice.
Russell was born on June 16, 1931, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Hazen and Jenny Wills (Hartrick). He married Patricia Wills. (Gay) in 1962. Russell and Patricia had three children, Mark, Elaine, and Todd, five grandchildren: Autumn, Rachel, Simon, Graham, and Luke, and two great-grandchildren, Ronnie Jo and Ellie Rae. Patricia preceded Russell in death in December of 2014.
Russell worked at Detroit Stoker Company in Monroe, Michigan for more than 40 years. He retired as president of the company and its two subsidiaries, Capitol Conveyor Company, and Midwest Metallurgic Laboratories in 1992. As a resident of Monroe, he served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Monroe County Community College and the Monroe Community Foundation.
Russell and Patricia moved to Port Charlotte in 1992. He was an active member of the Deep Creek Civic Association and later the homeowners’ association of Heritage Oaks Park. Russell was an active reading volunteer at Neil Armstrong Elementary School where he established a reading library in his wife’s memory in 2014.
Russell treasured his family and friends and served as a mentor and advocate for all.
A memorial service will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 1380 Forrest Nelson Blvd, Port Charlotte, FL on June 28, 2025, at 2:30 pm.
