Selma Leoni Bailey, age 69, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Saturday, January 30, 2016 in Port Charlotte.
Selma, also known to many as “Selly or Zam”, was born on October 17, 1946 in Aruba, Netherland Antilles to the late Mary Christiana Kemp and John Joseph Gumbs. Selma relocated to Birmingham, England in 1964, where she lived until relocating to the United States in 1973. After living in New York City for many years, Selma relocated to Port Charlotte, FL in 1988. Besides enjoying the warm sunny days n’ nights in Florida, Selma enjoyed sewing, dancing, traveling and an occasional game of bingo. In 2000, she became a foster parent. In 2009 and 2012, she became an adopted parent.
Selma is survived by her children, Anita, Nigel, Adrian, Sandra, Quan, Cleshay and Cymone; along with her grand-children, Corey, Ebony, Kameisha and Synsei-Chanelle, great-grandchildren, Dajaun and Destini: siblings, Andeline, Joseph, Hubert, Ronald, Earl, Christine, Francisco, Gregory, Jane, Joseph, Julie, Leslie, Marie, Roberto, and Sonia; and numerous extended family members.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. this Friday, February 12, 2016 at Roberson Funeral Homes Port Charlotte Chapel at 2151 Tamiami Trail. A Funeral ceremony will be held beginning 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Life Port Church at 390 Flamingo Blvd. in Port Charlotte. Officiates for the ceremony will be Pastor Paul Patton and Pastor Ronald Bailey. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Selma’s life.
