Stephen Craig Miller,1stSG U.S.ARMY Ret., 64, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in the comforting care and love of his wife and family at his Port Charlotte residence.
Stephen was born May 7, 1951 in Hempstead, New York to Ray and Ruth Miller. Stephen began his military career as a young man wanting to serve his country serving in the Vietnam war, and before the end of his career in the Persian Gulf war. Among his many medals, badges, citations and commendations, he was proudest of his two Bronze Stars, and multiple Meritorious and Army Commendation awards. He and his wife Linda raised four children during this time, and moved from his last posting at Fort Hood, Texas following his retirement to Port Charlotte in 1993, where he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his mother, Ruth Miller of Venice, FL, and his beloved wife of more than 40 years, Linda M. Miller; sons Craig (Shannon) Miller and Timothy Miller, both of Port Charlotte; daughter, Christine Miller also of Port Charlotte; and twelve grandchildren; sisters, Sharon (Malcolm) Lowery of AL and Jeanne (John) Robinson of VA; brothers, Thomas (Teri) Miller also of VA, and Douglas (Kelly) Miller of GA; many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Stephen was preceded in death by his father Ray, and a son, Kevin Miller.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. this Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. Committal services with Military Honors will follow at 1:30 P.M. at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida.
Memorial donations in Stephen’s memory are suggested to Tidewell Hospice Philanthropy Department.
