Sylvester J. Kempf, 78, 0f Port Charlotte, Florida passed away, Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in Port Charlotte. He was born October 8, 1933 in Shelby, Ohio and moved to Port Charlotte in 1987 from Shelby. He was a retired typesetter and a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Port Charlotte.
Survived by his two children, Vickie (husband- Dennis) Dunn of Port Charlotte and Chris (wife- Trish) Kempf of Kaneohe, HI; two sisters, Ruth Muth of North Carolina and Agnes Gerster of Shelby; three brothers, Kenny Kempf and Allen Kempf both of Shelby, OH, Verlin Kempf of Sebring, FL. 2 grandchildren ,Dinay (husband- Jason) Baun and Devin Dunn and 1 great grandchild, Alexis Eileen Baun ; Preceded in death by his wife Eileen Kempf.
There will be a visitation Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Catholic wake service at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 AM Friday, August 31, 2012 at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte, Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.

SY & I have been friends for many years. He, Eileen, his late wife, & I went to high school together. Later Sy & I worked at AMF together. After we were married we would get together to play cards or other games, go out to eat, or just visit. He was always fun to be around & had a great sense of humor. My husband felt the same way as I did about our friendship. I will really miss Sy, for we have always stayed in touch regardless of the distance between us in miles. We called each other throughout the year to keep in touch & exchange information about our families. I would also keep him updated on news of Shelby & our other classmates. I have never heard anyone say anything bad about SY. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Vickie & Chris & their families.
