Thelma Ruby Campbell, 102, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away on August 24, 2026.

Life of Faith and Service

“Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord… that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.” Revelation 14:13

On October 10, 1923, in Endeavor, Manchester Parish, Jamaica, Thelma Ruby Campbell began a remarkable earthly journey that would span more than a century.

From humble beginnings, she grew into a woman whose life would be defined by faith, family, service, generosity, and an unwavering willingness to care for others.

She lived in Kingston and made a living as a launderer.   In 1970, she traveled from Jamaica to New York to attend the wedding of her only child, George—a journey that would begin an entirely new chapter in her life. She made her home in Bronx, New York, eventually becoming a US citizen and building a life characterized by independence, service, and devotion to family.

While living in New York, Thelma devoted much of her working life to home health care for the elderly. She demonstrated that same devotion when her own mother, Sarah, became ill and needed care. And when her grandchildren needed her, Thelma navigated the bus and subway systems, traveling from Bronx to Queens to help care for them.

Thelma was an excellent baker. Her family especially remembers her potato pudding, a favorite of her son George, and the toto (coconut) cake she lovingly made for her grandchildren.

She lived modestly to bless others financially. Generously sharing much of what she had became one of the ways she expressed her affection.  A gift placed into the hand of a loved one was never merely about the money. It was Thelma’s quiet way of saying, “I love you, and I want to bless you.”  Her grandchildren could always count on a monthly note arriving in the mailbox—with a little cash tucked inside.

At 102, Thelma’s memory was sharp.   She could tell you stories of people and places that you had long forgotten.  She remembered birthdays and milestones of everyone she encountered and always celebrated you with a card…and a little gift.

Above all else, Thelma was a woman of faith.

Her faith was not simply something she professed; it was reflected in how she lived. She cared for others. She gave generously. She served. She remained devoted to her family. And throughout the many seasons and changes of more than a century of life, her faith remained constant.

Thelma was a devoted Seventh-day Adventist.  She attended North Street Seventh-day Adventist Church in Franklyn Town, Jamaica.   She was baptized and served faithfully as a Deaconess at the Bronx Seventh-day Adventist Church.  She continued her walk with God at North Orlando Seventh-day Adventist Church and later at Port Charlotte Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The Lord blessed Thelma with an extraordinary 102 years of life.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted daughter-in-law, Joy Lindo; 3 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Sheila Livingston, Millicent Goger, and Robert Campbell; and a host of nieces, nephews, church family, and friends.

Thelma was preceded in death by her beloved son, George E. Lindo; her parents, Sarah Flemming and George Campbell; and eleven of her siblings.

Thelma’s earthly work is complete. She now rests from her labor.

Walk good, Thelma. Your work here is done, and your family will carry your love forward.

A visitation will be held 10:00AM-11:00AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00AM, Friday, September 11, 2026 at Port Charlotte Seventh Day Adventist Church in Port Charlotte. Entombment will follow to Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte, FL.
