It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Therese Laverdure Richardson, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and wife, who passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
Therese was born in Montreal, Quebec, on February 21, 1928, to Bernadette Lamarche and Emery Laverdure. When Therese was young, her parents made the decision to leave the bustle of Montreal behind and move their family of nine children to a farm in Fairfax, Vermont. Therese held fond memories of her childhood and farm life, and it was in Fairfax that she met the love of her life, Earle Wayne Richardson. They were married on July 24, 1949, and shared many wonderful years together. Earle predeceased her.
Therese lived a full and blessed life, rich with family, friendships, creativity, adventure, and countless treasured memories. She had a wonderful gift for sewing, creating beautiful heirloom quilts and sewing many of her own clothes. She generously passed this skill along to her dear friend Claire, sharing not only her talent but also the joy she found in creating something with her own hands.
Family was at the heart of Therese’s life. She cherished time spent with those she loved, whether gathered around a table playing cards, sharing a homemade pie, working on puzzles, or simply enjoying one another’s company. She especially loved teaching her grandchildren how to read and was intentional about being present and caring for them. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her tremendous joy.
Therese also had a wonderfully competitive and playful spirit. She loved dressing up for Halloween, even later in life, and proudly became the winner of many ugly sweater contests. She enjoyed golf, walking, reading, baking, gardening, traveling, attending baseball games, and, whenever the opportunity arose, dancing.
During her retirement years, Therese volunteered for the Red Cross for many years. She was especially proud of earning her ten-gallon pin for donating blood, a testament to her generous heart and desire to help others.
Therese is survived by her sister, Georgette Audette; her three sons, David, James, and Mark; her daughters-in-law, Donna and Mariann; her four grandchildren, Christy, Jackie, Melissa, and Chris; her four great-grandchildren, Sophie, Foster, Jasper, and Hank; and her 42 nieces and nephews.
Therese leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, resilience, creativity, and family devotion. She will be remembered for her warm heart, her sense of humor, her competitive spirit, her many talents, and the countless ways she made the people around her feel loved and cared for.
She lived a blessed and meaningful life, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Therese will be held at 1:00 Pm this Friday, October 16, 2026, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church located in Port Charlotte, Florida, followed by entombment with her beloved husband Earl, at Restlawn Memorial Gardens cemetery, also in Port Charlotte. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.
