THOMAS (TOM) G. HOPWOOD, 71, of Punta Gorda, Florida, died early Friday morning, August 29, 2008 at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda.
Born March 2, 1937 in Youngstown, Ohio, Tom, a veteran of the United States Navy, Korean War, moved to Punta Gorda in 1979 from his long time home of Lakewood, California, where he worked as Head of Tree Services for the City of Lakewood, Cerritos and Orange Coutny’s for 15 years. Tom was a local Shrimp Boat Captain, Captaining Patty’s Rival which was berthed at Punta Gorda’s Laishley Park Marina, until his retirement in 1992.
Tom is survived by his loving family, wife of over 48 years, Patricia Patty A. Hopwood, two sons Thomas (Tom) G. Hopwood, Jr. and Kenneth M. Hopwood, and one granddaughter, Angela Hopwood, all of Punta Gorda; five step-daughters, Loretta, Sandra, Patricia, Debrah and Donna; one step-son, Fredrick; seven sisters, Delores Vance, Louise Hanuschak, Janice Sanguinetti, Margaret (Peggy) Banko, Kathleen Lipkovich, Linda Lozano and Ruth Makrias; two brothers, William A. Hopwood and Kenneth S. Hopwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
