Vely Jean-Pierre,67, passed away on March 16, 2025, in Fort Myers , Florida.
Vely was born on January 21st, 1958, in Cap-Haitien, Haiti to his beloved mother Marie Rozelle Jean-Pierre. Vely was raised as an only child and was doted on by his grandmother Anais Jean-Pierre, who proceeded him in death, and his dedicated mother. Vely grew up with his cousins Clark, Fritz, Adler, and Ghislaine. He was affectionately called Loly by his family and close friends and called John or Pierre by others. He grew up to have a zealous hunger for knowledge and enjoyed reading, playing chess, and staying abreast of current events.
Vely moved to Brooklyn, New York in adolescence when his family immigrated from Haiti to the United States in 1970. In Brooklyn, Vely met his teenage sweetheart, Rochelle McCall Jean-Pierre. Both were instantly smitten with each other at first glance. They would later marry and go on to have five children. Their union spanned over three decades.
Vely joined the United States Marine Corp in 1977 then rose through the ranks to become an E5 Sergeant while excelling as an aircraft mechanic. Vely was proud to serve in the United States military and was grateful for both the stability it afforded his family, and the experiences he gained. He would often share stories about his time in Okinawa, Japan. The traditional silk blue kimono that he brought back from Japan for his wife has become a family keepsake and continues to be passed down.
After his service in the military, Vely and his family moved to Port Charlotte, FL where he pursued his interest in cars and returned to school to become an automotive mechanic. He would playfully tell his younger kids that he was a car doctor. Vely had difficulty settling into the peace of retirement and found occasional comfort in his pets.
Vely Jean-Pierre is survived by his five children and thirteen grandchildren who know him as Grandpa Loly. He will fondly be remembered as a thinker, who makes the world’s best omelets and breakfast potatoes. A man who was challenged by life’s complexities and would give his testimonies away freely. Lover of all animals, especially birds, dogs, and fish. A father who often reminded his children that the Bible is – Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.
