Continue ReadingVirginia Lee (Ufer) Golemo, age 82, of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Elk Grove Village, IL, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Friday, June 22, 2018, in Port Charlotte.
She was born in Chicago in 1936 to William and Marguerite (Chewning) Ufer. Virginia and Alvin married in 1958 and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They lived in Elk Grove Village, IL, before moving to Port Charlotte, FL, in 1985. Virginia was a graduate of Steinmetz High School and Chicago Teachers College, both in Chicago, IL. She was a preschool and an elementary school teacher in Elk Grove Village, IL, and Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda, FL.
Music was an important part of her life. She taught piano for many years. She also sang and directed in Catholic church choirs throughout her life, and was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Virginia was a member of the Charlotte County Retired Educators Association, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was an avid fan of the Florida Gators and a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.
Virginia is survived by her loving husband Alvin and their five children: Linda (Kent) Meyer of Orlando, FL; Michael (Mary Beth) Golemo of Ames, IA; John Golemo of Acworth, GA; Alan Golemo of Cary, NC; Leann (Lee) Munoz of Durham, NC. Virginia will also be fondly remembered by her eight grandchildren: John, Molly (Aaron), Mac, Christopher, Ryan, Amy, Zoe and Anthony. Virginia is also survived by two sisters: Dorothy (Eugene) Hlavacek of Palatine, IL, and Rev. Nancy (Michael) Callaham of Apex, NC.
