Hughes, 83, of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Bayfront Hospital Port Charlotte. He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey to William and Eleanor Hughes. Most of Bill’s career was in transportation for the first company to introduce containerized shipping, SeaLand. His position took him and his family to live in many foreign locations including Spain, Iran, Dubai, and The Netherlands.
Bill lived a full life. Upon retiring in 2001, he and Mary Ann moved to Punta Gorda to enjoy boating and traveling. He was very active in the community volunteering with the Punta Gorda Police Department, Burnt Store Isles Boating Club, and the Burnt Store Isles Homeowners Association.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary Ann, two sons, Brian and Kevin and their families,2 brothers, Gerard and Joseph and their families.His daughter Karen preceded him into the arms of the Lord.
There will be a visitation Tuesday, November 9, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Roberson Funeral Home 215 Mary Street Punta Gorda, Florida 33950
A Mass of Christian Burial for William will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 211 W. Charlotte Ave. Punta Gorda, FL. 33950. Comital Service and interment will follow at Indian Spring Cemetery in Punta Gorda.
