William Miles Hurley, 84, of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Towson, Maryland passed to his reward on August 29, 2026, after a brief illness. William was the son of the late Nelson F. Hurley and Eleanor F. Hurley of Baltimore.
Bill graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and Towson State University. He taught English in Baltimore County Schools for 28 years at Ridgely Jr. High and Loch Raven Sr. High. An avid boater, he held a Coast Guard Master’s license for 38 years. He worked for the Baltimore Water Taxi for 20 years, rising to general manager. He was on the board of Trustee’s for the Baltimore Maritime Museum and was secretary of the Baltimore Harbor Professional Captains Association. In retirement he served as president of Harbor Maritime Group and operated the South Venice Beach Ferry and Marina Jack II dinner boat.
Bill is survived by his five children: Kathleen B. Hurley of Rockville, MD, Jeanne DeMos of Sparks, Maryland, Lynne H. Norris of Jacksonville, Florida, James N. Hurley of Baltimore, Maryland, and Eve H. Wabst of Yulee, Florida. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. William was preceded in death by his dearly beloved wife of 60 years, Lorna D. Hurley
He was a member of the Baltimore Fire Dept. Auxiliary for 18 years, the Lutherville Volunteer Fire Company and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for 46 years.
Services and interment will be at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, in Timonium, Maryland on September 12, S2026, at 12:00 pm.
